Henrietta Mears
DOCUMENTARY
#fhtogglels/Read More/Close/eb
Billy Graham called her the most influential woman in his life after his mother and his wife. How could one woman, who never preached a sermon or went to seminary inspire the founders of some of the largest ministries in the world?
Henrietta Mears (1890 - 1963) was a profound influencer on the ministries of the Protestant church in the 20th Century. In a feature length documentary we’ll talk with the people who knew her, were affected by her, and the scholars and theologians who will help us understand her impact that continues to inspire today.
Vision for the Project:
Audiences are inspired by real stories, by people who do amazing things and change the world in positive ways.
We want to share the story of how a school teacher from Minnesota revolutionized the modern church and helped to create the first mega-church in the United States (Hollywood Presbyterian had over 10,000 members in 1950 with more than 6,000 in Miss Mears Sunday School classes).
As Dr. Mears, who liked to be called simply “Teacher,” would be the first person to tell you, it wasn’t her, but it was God working through her.
There would be no Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ), Young Life, Navigators, Gospel Light, Forest Home, or dozens of other ministries without this woman with big vision, big dreams and big hats (Miss Mears was instantly recognizable by the large, varied, and flamboyant hats she wore).
As we have spoken with many who were with her during her years, we’ve heard stories about Miss Mears “and her boys” and her famous “College Department” at the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, but now we’ll be traveling the country to follow her impact as we assemble a 90-minute feature documentary on the life of this extraordinary, groundbreaking and inspiring woman.
We’ll tell her story through interviews with over two dozen of her colleagues and students, rare audio recordings, an incredible trove of photographs, and special material from the archives at First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, Forest Home Christian Conference Center, Azusa Pacific University, and the publishing company she founded, Gospel Light Publications. We’ll also hear from scholars like Dr. Arlin Migliazzo, author of Mother of Modern Evangelicalism: The Life and Legacy of Henrietta Mears, winner of The Award of Merit, Christianity Today 2022 Book Awards.
Our hope is to understand the person she was and how her life and her work continue to inspire many people today, more than 50 years after her death.

Play
#fhtogglels/Read More/Close/eb
The Brightest It’s Ever Been is a play about anxiety. Playwright Kayli Slayden used her personal experiences to highlight the low-lights of living with a mental illness and to spread the message that you are not alone in your struggles. The story follows Jamie, an anxious teenage girl, and the (not so) little nagging voice in her head as they navigate what seems to be a normal day for Jamie, but a frightening one for those around her. Following three incredible productions in Kansas City, Brightest will be hitting the road in 2024 to bring this story to even more audiences

Big Water Collective
Artist Community
#fhtogglels/Read More/Close/eb
In a world characterized by division and discord, the Big Water Collective stands as a beacon of hope and unity. We firmly believe in the profound and transformative power of music to bring people together, heal wounds, and create a shared space for humanity to connect when words fall short. Our collective has emerged as a response to the growing need for unity and solace in a world that often feels divided. We are dedicated to this: “Crafting music from a community context that fosters unity, healing, and a deeper connection between individuals and their faith”. Our motivation is to write as a community for the joy of coming together and creating music that is scripture breathed, authentic, accessible, and timeless.
At the heart of the Big Water Collective lies the understanding that music is a powerful means through which individuals can express themselves openly and honestly before God. Drawing from the timeless wisdom of the Psalms and classic hymns, steeped in tradition and spirituality, we aim to give voice to the unspoken. These sacred songs have the unique ability to help us articulate our deepest emotions and experiences, providing a collective language for sharing stories, whether they be joyous or sorrowful, in a courageous and communal manner through our music.

In the pivotal year of 1776, the British empire is facing an insurrection in its American colonies. In the fishing town of Marblehead, Massachusetts, north of Boston, the burgeoning “Patriot” community is weighing their options for the future, while Loyalist residents watch with a wary eye as events unfold. Black, Native and Caucasian Marbleheaders have lived and worked side by side for years, but each have their own perspective on and experience with the British and the prospects of independence from the monarchy. As the Marblehead community writ-large grapples with the changing political landscape, the Marblehead regiment emerges as the preeminent troop in the Continental army. The regiment’s racial diversity becomes a flash point of conflict with other “American” soldiers, yet the unit’s exemplary service puts paid to the naysayers and more than once saves the Continental army from extinction.
* An 8-episode series showcasing the year that birthed a nation and proposed to the world a vision for liberty that is still being sought.

The Elephant In The Room
FEATURE FILM
#fhtogglels/Read More/Close/eb
THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM is a light-hearted movie about a serious subject. What happens when a young single L.A. woman -- an avowed progressive -- discovers a new guy she meets in December 2020 happens to be a supporter of President Donald Trump? Is he someone she could actually date, regardless? And is she, for him?
Writer-director Erik Bork is a two-time Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning writer-producer best known for working with Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg in the creation of HBO’s Band of Brothers and From the Earth to the Moon.
This new project’s intent is to explore the challenges of a “bridging” relationship in today’s ultra-polarized political climate, while also telling an amusingly endearing story about two lovable characters who happen to be on opposite sides of the day’s politics.
It has received funding and support from multiple nonprofits and individuals who want to see America move toward greater civic health, and see the project as meaningful alternative programming to our often divisive media.
