Wedgwood Staff, Investors, Senior Advisors and Sector Liaisons kicked off our amazing two-day Members Retreat in Nashville with a trip to the Warner Brothers Recording Studio, where we carried on a rich conversation about the changing business model of music with special guests, Steve Taylor, Barry Landis and Nate Yetton. We later moved to the Bluebird Café for a night of Stories & Song. The evening opened with dinner and a Jazz quartet featuring Music Sector Liaison Charlie Peacock and veteran musicians, Chester Thompson (drummer for Genesis), Jeff Coffin (saxophonist for Dave Matthews Band) and Calvin Turner (bassist for Marc Broussard). We were blessed to continue our evening of music with performances by artists we have funded including Matthew Perryman Jones, Katie Herzig, Brooke Waggoner and Sam & Ruby. The evening concluded with an intimate performance and conversation with Isaac Slade, lead singer of The Fray and another of our Music Sector Liaisons.
The following day allowed for time in reflection at Charlie Peacock and Andi Ashworth’s home, Art House, and discussion about our shared mission through Wedgwood Circle to “to tell true, good and beautiful stories for the common good” with the lives we lead and the culture we create. Wedgwood Circle Members enjoyed dialogue with Graphic Novel Sector Liaisons Jim Krueger and Doug TenNapel, as they presented and gathered ideas for the Sapere 2.0 funded graphic novels that are in development as we speak. We also had the opportunity to engage in a thoughtful devotional from Senior Advisor Erwin McManus, break up into investor small groups led by Sector Liaison Dave Carlson, and relax to the acoustic melodies of Sam Ashworth, Joy Williams, Jillian Edwards, Andrew Belle and Mat Kearney.
We are constantly reminded of the importance of community and that was certainly evident during our time in Nashville. We are incredibly grateful for our “Circle” of friends and eager to see how Wedgwood will continue to grow from here. Thanks to all who could be there!
